Indian cinema goes global

Admittedly, Attenborough had to cast a Ben Kingsley in the protagonist's role, people the sets with Western artistes, take a smattering of Indian actors, get an American writer to do the screenplay for a film that then went on to create Oscar history.
The industry has the flamboyance of Shah Rukh Khan who can floor the world with Om Shanti Om, a mind like Aamir Khan's that can create emotionally beautiful films like Taare Zameen Par, the comic genius of Akshay Kumar who can teach Indians to proudly chant Singh is Kinng, mirror man Madhur Bhandarkar who can smash every carefully self-created myth of the glamour world through works like Page 3 and Fashion.
This simply points to the fact that the global entertainment world is seriously looking at the Indian film industry and that Bollywood no longer needs to go around with a begging bowl.
Until this potential was brought forth, Hindi cinema remained in a rut of predictability and formula that may have created individual legends like Raj Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan overseas but which failed to draw the world to the Indian film industry as an entity.
